Released as part of the lead up to the 2000 Americas Cup races held on the Hauraki Gulf off the coast of New Zealand, this rare modern adaptation of the traditional sailor's bag code named 'Zealand' was created from waterproof whipcord canvas and fashioned with all the regular Louis Vuitton accents such as natural cowhide leather trims and lightweight aluminum hooks, zippers, fastners and handle. A discreet, silicon logo is sewn upon the face of the bag with the Louis Vuitton Cup 2000 insignia. Comprised of two separate parts - the main body of the Zealand is lined with gray, smooth polymide canvas and held together using a leather drawstring with an aluminium Louis Vuitton toggle. The bottom half of the bag can be used to store wet clothing or shoes and is fastened with double zippers and leather pullers which can be locked using the attached LV Cup kiwi lock. The classic handle holding the main body of the Zealand together is made from aluminum with leather sewn around the clasp and has Louis Vuitton laser written along the vertical shaft. Using a twist lock system, the handle weaves through the 12 aluminum loops along the lip of the bag to close. The metis strap can be removed by using the aluminum ring-pulls. Guaranteed authentic, the Zealand is very good condition and was part of a small series - for which it bears a limited release number (0603). The leather has since turned into the famous Louis Vuitton honey and some areas of the aluminum have developed a patina. The bag has never been checked in and thus the canvas is in immaculate condition. The interior is stainless and the bag is odourless. The bag can be flat-packed within a suitcase.
